They are known as the most unpredictable team in the world, and the Greenshirts proved that right by winning their first match in the mega event. The Pakistan side defeated hosts England by 14 runs in a thrilling encounter where the 11 players played as a team.

The Greenshirts began the match aggressively after winning the toss and being put to bat at Trent Bridge. Thanks to half-centuries from Mohammad Hafeez, Babar Azam, and Captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, they managed to post 348 runs for 8 wickets.

It was a Woakes and Moeen show for England

Chris Woakes and Moeen Ali took three wickets to fall for the hosts. Mark Wood, who replaced Liam Plunkett, ended with figures of 2 for 53.

England couldn’t recover from the loss of wickets at regular intervals

Chasing a record total of 349 runs to win the match, England had a disastrous start. They lost wickets at regular intervals, a story that continued till the final over. Although Joe Root and Jos Buttler scored centuries, the hosts could only manage 334 runs in 50 overs.

It was a tough decision for the adjudicators to decide on one Man of the Match. They considered Wahab Riaz for his fiery bowling and Babar Azam for his sensible batting. But for his explosive 84 off just 62 balls, Mohammad Hafeez went back with the Man of the Match award.
