Twitter Agrees to Stop Unilateral Suspension of Pakistani Accounts

After India revoked article 370, several Twitter accounts of Pakistanis were suspended for speaking about Kashmir Issue

Pakistan and Twitter administration have reached an agreement regarding the issue of suspension and termination of accounts of Pakistanis.

The micro-blogging website suspended several accounts of people who raised their voices for the rights of people of Kashmir. Not only people, but celebrities also faced this problem after the account of director Nabeel Qureshi was suspended.

After this issue was raised on social media, the federal government of Pakistan contacts Twitter administration. They addressed the issue of account suspension without any warning or prior notice.

According to ARY News, Twitter has agreed to stop the unilateral suspension or termination of the accounts of Pakistani users in the future. This will put an end to the Indian monopoly on social media that tried to suppress the voices speaking up for Kashmir on social media.

A meeting was held between the officials of Pakistan National Information technology Board and Twitter officials in San Francisco, United States.

Sabahat Ali Shah, Chief Executive Officer of NITB, held a talk with Twitter high-level officials about this issue. He addressed that this move is only suppressing the freedom of speech of Pakistanis after the illegal annexation of Indian Occupied Kashmir on 5th August 2019.

The discussion ended with an agreement to stop the blockage of accounts and to change the procedure of the suspension of user accounts.

Following this agreement, the microblogging website will now contact the government of Pakistan in case of any complaint instead of immediately shutting down the accounts.
