Marking the celebration of Women’s Day with great dignity, the book launch of “THE BEGUM” organized and hosted by APWA (Youth) and WCCI (South) was held at the Jahangir Siddiqui Auditorium, IBA City Campus. The event was well-attended by high-profile women as well as by members of social, print and electronic media. The memorable evening kick-started with the name of Almighty Allah followed by the national anthem.
President WCCI South, Shaiyanne Malik gave the welcome address and said, “We look forward to seeing a society where women follow the footsteps of Begum Ra’ana Liaquat Ali Khan and take on pivotal roles to help our nation on the path of progress. This biography on the great lady, who was one of the leading women in the Pakistan Movement will, I am sure, be an inspiration to all of us.”
To the delight of all present, the daughter-in-law of Begum Ra’ana Liaquat Ali Khan then read out excerpts from the book. This was followed by a panel discussion moderated by Shaiyanne Malik with the eminent panelists being Laila Haroon Sarfaraz, the author Poonam Ayub, Yasmin Dastur, and Pat Ashraf Liaquat Ali Khan.
Adding value to the evening was a beautiful dance recital by Zahshanne Malik performed to a poem recited by the theatre guru Sohail Malik, which was greatly appreciated by the audience. Concluding the event, Kiran Adil, Chairperson APWA Youth, delivered the vote of thanks followed by a sumptuous hi-tea courtesy the event co-sponsor, JS Bank, the other sponsor being IBA.
