Tahira Abdullah schools Khalil ur Rehman Qamar on feminism in a TV show

Human rights activist and social worker Tahira Abdullah has become the center of attention on social media after a clip went viral in which she lashed out at Khalil ur Rehman Qamar over feminism in a live talk show.

Hosted by barrister Ehtesham Amir-ud-din, Qamar, Abdullah, and journalist Owais Touheed were having a debate on gender equality, feminism and its impacts on our society.

Tahira Abdullah took this opportunity to school Khalil ur Rehman Qamar over his infamous views on feminism and the definition of a ‘woman’.

Talking about what feminism really is, Tahira Abdullah said that it is “understanding and believing that women, too, are human beings”. She added that the respect and dignity of a woman are not in the hands of any man to give or take and that she’s born with her rights.

The human rights activist also referred to the Constitution of Pakistan which protects the rights of a woman and says that a woman doesn’t need to ask (beg) a man for her rights.

Tahira Abdullah became the voice of many Pakistanis who don’t agree with Khalil ur Rehman’s views on feminism and call him a ‘misogynist’.

Back in October 2019, an interview of Khalil ur Rehman Qamar sparked a controversy on social media in which he had shared his opinion on feminism and gender equality. The writer of Mere Paas Tum Ho had blamed women for ruining another woman’s house.

Calling himself the biggest feminist in Pakistan, Khalil ur Rehman added that women have forgotten their actual rights in the race to become equal to men.
