Atif Aslam’s track was removed from T-Series YouTube channel following backlash
T-Series, the leading Indian music and film production company, faced backlash for uploading Atif Aslam’s version of the famous track ‘Kinna Sona’ on their YouTube channel and were forced to not only remove the track but also issue an apology after the hashtag #TakeDownAtifAslamSong begin trending on Twitter in India.
The track was part of the movie Marjaavan, starring Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria and initially composed by the Meet Brothers. Aslam’s version of the track was uploaded on the YouTube channel on June 23 and was removed from just two days after the release due to the immense backlash.
Atif Aslam, like all the Pakistani artists who portrayed their skills in the Indian industry, has been the subject of many backlashes from the Indian public in the past. Especially after the recent developments between the two neighboring countries, now all Pakistani artists have been banned to work in India.
Not only Aslam but the music label T-Series faced severe backlash for their action, as they fail to comply with the guidelines by the AICWA (All Indian Cine Workers Association) and FWICE (Federation of Western India Cine Employees.
The music label T-Series had to issue a statement of apology for calming the storm, in their words,” It has been brought to our notice that the said song has been sung by Atif Aslam and this song was put up on the YouTube channel of T-Series by one of our employees from the promotion team. He was unaware of his action and erred while putting up the song”.
They ensured their audiences of no such doings in the future by saying, “We condemn our mistake and apologize for the same. We assure you that henceforth we will neither release, nor promote the song on any platform of T-Series. Meanwhile, we are removing the said song from our YouTube channel. We also assure you that henceforth we will not be releasing or promoting work by any Pakistani artists”.
Atif Aslam has been a major hit in the Bollywood industry before the political tension between the two countries got to this extreme level. He has many hit Bollywood tracks like Tera Hone Laga Hu, Pehli Nazar, Tu Jane Na, among others under his belt.
