“I Hope This Doesn’t Become The New Normal”, Deepika Padukone on JNU Violence
Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone visited Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in New Delhi on Tuesday and her presence came out as a huge support to all the students protesting for their rights.
On Sunday, a masked mob with sticks, sledgehammer, and rocks attacked the students of JNU who were protesting against the controversial Indian Citizenship Amendment Act.
Where many big wigs of Bollywood have not spoken on the ongoing protests against CAA, this brave step by Deepika Padukone is being lauded on social media for standing up against the goons who attacked the students and staff at JNU.

Taking to India Today, Deepika Padukone expressed concern about the attack on students in several Indian universities. The actress said that she is scared and hopes that it doesn’t become the new normal.
I said what I wanted to say 2 years ago when Padmaavat was releasing. It’s the same fear I felt two years at the time. When I see all this, I feel pain. I hope that this doesn’t become the new normal that anyone can say anything and get away with it.
I feel scared and feel sad too. I think this isn’t the foundation of our nation.
I feel angry that this is happening and that action is not being taken: @DeepikaPadukone tells @anjanaomkashyap#IndiaFirst LIVE with @ShivAroor: https://t.co/4fqxBVUizL pic.twitter.com/Qa1E2nGwvr

Indian producer Nikkhil Advani also showed support to Deepika Padukone
As producer today @deepikapadukone would’ve been standing in the preview theatres in Mumbai waiting to hear praise being showered on her maiden production. She instead chose to stand in solidarity with #JNUstudents knowing fully well the ramifications of her actions. #RESPECT

Indian actress Sayani Gupta also praised Deepika for using her position to choose the correct path
Thank you @deepikapadukone for giving this movement a mainstream narrative. For using your position to choose the correct path. It always comes to the women and yes, they do deliver! Big love sister! #WeAreWithJNU #noplaceforfascism

I think I just figured out why Deepika Padukone's beauty is unparalleled. Because she's pure inside out. A foundation for the awareness of depression, film on an acid attack survivor & then she stands with JNU students at a rally #ISupportDeepika Biggest balls in all of Bollywood

Also Deepika is a QUEEN and I support her stance, Modi and Amit shah are fascists. The events happening in India, the courage of students are history in the making

#IsupportDeepika vs #BoycottChhapaak
Where people are praising Deepika Padukone with the hashtag #IsupportDeepika, there are many Indians who are spewing venom over her visit to JNU and demanding to boycott her upcoming film ‘Chhapaak’ which revolves around the survivors of acid attacks.
Never Seen #DeepikaPadukone Visit URI Martyr's family
Never Seen Her Visit Pulwama Martyrs
Never Seen Her Visit Kashmiri Pandit family

Lookie who is supporting both @deepikapadukone and that ‘story-teller’ moron @Mmirzaprabhu with her ‘Free Kashmir’ placard. Now do you see the hidden hand that moves the strings? pic.twitter.com/r1ze0s45T0

Famous Indian actor turned politician Raj Babbar lashed out at that trending #BoycottChhapaak and said the movie is about acid attack survivor.
This is callous. Those calling to boycott #Chhapaak because @deepikapadukone went to #JNU are forgetting the movie is about an acid attack survivour whose story Deepika has dared to share. How can one forget the cause the brave actress has espoused ? #ISupportDeepika pic.twitter.com/iWlAcpht4C
