Smog Forces Government To Close Down Schools!

Smog in Lahore goes from to bad to worst!

A thick toxic black smog has engulfed the entire Lahore city which has spiked the Air Quality Index (AQI) to a dangerous level. Due to the smog, Chief Minister Usman Buzdar announced the closure of public and private schools on Thursday in Lahore.

He shared the news through his social media:

“Due to the sudden increase in smog, all schools in Lahore will remain closed tomorrow. We are closely monitoring the #LahoreSmog situation. The administration is already on high alert and has tasked them to escalate actions against crop burning and other factors that contribute to smog.”

US Consulate in Lahore also shared the concern through their tweet that stated:

“Alert: At this time, the U.S. Consulate General Lahore’s AQI monitor is reporting PM2.5 pollutants at over 500. Other monitors in the city are reporting even higher levels. This is an extremely hazardous level. #LahoreSmog”

According to the AQI, the air quality has touched from PM 2.5 to 500 and above on Wednesday night. Health experts advised people, to remain indoors especially asthma patients, elderly, children, and asked them all to stay hydrated.

However, in the midst of the situation Chief Minister announced schools to remain closed for the day. According to the metrological department, the sudden rise of smog is due to the change in the direction of air that brought smog and other pollutants from India.
