Prime Minister Imran Khan hinted at extending the deadline of Asset Declaration Scheme in order to avoid any inconvenience faced by the citizens by June 30.
Prime Minister Imran Khan made the remark while interacting with the business community on a PTV News Telethon via video link.
Speaking on National TV, the premier observed that, “people believe their money would be wasted, which is why the government is making desperate efforts to earn the public trust”.
PM Khan also urged the nation to work together with the government and cooperate to bring the country out of the debt trap.
One of the known business tycoons of Pakistan Aqeel Karim Dedhi asked the Prime Minister whether he would consider the extension in the deadline,
“I think the number of people interested in the scheme could be much larger if there was some clarification on what it purpose was, whether people have to deposit cash by June 30, whether this deadline can be extended by a couple of months. For instance, if you could register first and make the 4 percent penalty payment, but deposit cash in the bank later?”
PM Imran Khan noted that concern and confirmed that many people were complaining about the deadline being too short.
He further elaborated,
“I have discussed the issue with FBR Chairman Shabbar Zaidi and Abdul Hafeez Shaikh regarding what process should be adopted to make it convenient for the people. In the next 48 hours, we will inform all if the date is extended or not.”
The tycoon also touched upon the system of machinery, which has loads of issues and problems in the process on which PM Khan said, “If I’m the head of the government, I can appoint my man as the FBR Chairman, and get away with tax theft.
He elaborated the process of how corruption spreads from the upper to lowest rank,
“If I do it, then my ministers will also do it, so will the opposition. When the ruling elite starts evading taxes, it travels right to the lowest tier,” said the Prime Minister.
