In what can be termed as a brilliant start to the decade, Pakistan has managed to win a major tournament in Squash. Pakistani squash player Muhammad Hamza Khan defeated England’s Yusuf Sheikh in the final of the British Junior Open 2020, to become champion in the Under-15 category.
Hamza Khan clinched the title in what was a one-sided final and lasted 16 minutes, with the score being 11-4, 11-3, 11-7. The youngster had earlier defeated Egypt’s Yassin Shohdy in the semi-final on Sunday.
Hamza is the fifth Pakistani to win the British Junior Open U-15 title, the first to do it since Israr Ahmed in 2012. Others to win the title before them include Farhan Mehboob, Aamir Atlas, and Shoaib Hasan.
“I am very happy that I have become the British champion of the Under-15 category. I played many tough matches but I won them all,” A happy Hamza Khan said after his victory. “I will compete in and try to win the Under-17 championship as well,” he added.
This is not the first time Hamza Khan has won laurels for his country. In the last 3 years, he has won as many as nine gold medals, including two in Asian Junior Championship.
