Opening Pakistan vs Australia T20I abandoned due to rain

In the first match of Pakistan vs Australia T20I series, rain emerged winner instead of the two teams. First, it restricted Pakistan’s innings to 15 overs and then interrupted the match when Australia was on its way to the revised target. Yes, the Captains of both the sides fired before and after the interruptions but that wasn’t good enough for a result.

Captain Babar Saves Pakistan After Batting Collapse

It was a typical batting performance from Pakistan where one of the openers succumbed to a golden duck, and the middle order failed. Masterclass innings from Babar Azam helped Pakistan post 108 runs for the loss of 5 wickets on the scoreboard. His 59 not out from 38 balls was the backbone of Pakistan’s innings that suffered from two golden ducks – Fakhar Zaman and Imad Wasim. The new Captain hit five fours and two sixes to prove that Captaincy will not be a burden and stamp his class at the same time.

Wicket-keeper Rizwan Batted Sensibly

Mohammad Rizwan who got picked in place of Sarfaraz Ahmed scored 31 off 33 balls and added 60 runs with the skipper for the third wicket. The match was then restricted to a 15-overs-per-side match with Aussies needing 119 runs to win the opening game.

Super Finch Takes Clueless Irfan To Cleaners

The hosts were not just chasing a revised target of 119, but they had to score 34 at the end of the fifth over to stay ahead and win the match. Captain Aaron Finch scored 26 off those 34 runs in Mohammad Irfan’s second over, but rain had the last laugh. He raced to 37 off 16 balls and helped his side reach 41 runs in 3.1 overs before the rain hit halted his charge and later the match.

Fast Bowler Irfan Nearly Cost Pakistan The Match

The 37-year-old Irfan who was clueless in the field would have cost Pakistan the match had rain not played spoilsport. The two teams will head to Canberra for the second T20I on Tuesday.
