Major General Nigar Johar Khan has become the third woman in Pakistan’s history to hold the rank of a major general in the Pakistan Army
Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari announced the news about Major General Nigar Johar Khan on Twitter. Nigar has become the third woman in Pakistan’s history to hold the rank of a major general in the Pakistan Army.
Mazari announced the good news via Twitter on Tuesday. She shared a picture of the newly appointed major general with the caption: “Respect. #womenempowerment”.

Member of National Assembly (MNA) Wajiha Qamar revealed that Maj Gen Nigar Johar
hails “from a Pashtun family of Sawabi”.

“She is a two-star general in Pakistan Army’s Medical Corps. Apart from being a doctor, she is a sharp shooter too,” Wajiha Qamar explained.
“Pakistan has shown that, it is committed to gender equality and women empowerment. Gender specific jobs assigned by the ancient patriarchy are now adapting to the realities of 21st century,” she added.
A Brief History Of Major General Nigar Johar Khan
She got her early education from presentation convent girls high school, Rawalpindi. She completed her bachelors from Army Medical College in 1985.
From the University of Health Sciences, she received a master degree in public health. She elevated to the position of Major General on 9 February 2017.
Miss Nigar is a skilled, qualified and inspirational leader. She breaks the stereotype and becoming the symbol in the particular arena. Women like her and other women with such accomplishment stories inspire other women to work for the nation.
In Swabi she is the first female who has elevated to this position. Her willpower for accomplishment is an example for other women.
