Naseem Shah steers Pakistan back into the Pindi Test
Every bowler dreams of registering a hat-trick in International Cricket but even Naseem Shah wasn’t expecting it this early in his career. Playing his fourth Test at the age of 16, Naseem Shah is undoubtedly the youngest fast bowler in world cricket at the moment. Taking three wickets in three balls against Bangladesh in front of the home crowd must have felt like ending on top of the world. It was due to his heroics that Pakistan managed to restrict the visitors to 126 runs for the loss of six wickets on the third day of the Test.
The second and third day belonged to Pakistan!
Before Naseem Shah took four wickets on the third day, it was the batsmen who performed well. Be it Shan Masood’s consecutive century in as many matches or Babar Azam’s courageous ton, Pakistan played without any fear. Shan Masood’s innings ended at 100 while Babar Azam looked set when he was dismissed for 143. Haris Sohail and Asad Shafiq also scored the fifties and helped Pakistan register 445 runs on the scoreboard. Abu Jayed and Rubel Hossain were the most successful bowlers for Bangladesh as they ended with three wickets each.
Pakistan needs just four more wickets to win the match
The two Shahs of Pakistani bowling – Yasir Shah and Naseem Shah – were the destroyer in chief when it was Bangladesh’s chance to bat. Although three of the batsmen including captain Momin ul Haque managed to reach the 30s, none were able to convert it into a big score. Yasir Shah took two wickets to fall while Naseem Shah took four, including a hat-trick that no one was expecting. He now becomes the youngest bowler ever to take a hat-trick and also the quickest one, in terms of matches played. As for the visitors, when they began their second innings, they were 212 runs behind but at the end of the day, reduced the deficit to 86. They don’t have many wickets in hand and it seems certain that if rain doesn’t play spoilsport, Pakistan might be heading towards a famous victory.
