Mehwish Hayat Becomes Ambassador for Global Charity Penny Appeal

As an ambassador for global charity Penny Appeal, Mehwish Hayat will raise funds to rebuild 5 schools in Sukkur, Sindh

Our superstar Mehwish Hayat is currently on a roll to make us all proud with her achievements that are making headlines around the world.

Flying high ever since she received the Pride of Performance award in Norway, the Gangster Guiriya is going to represent Pakistan yet again on a global stage as she will now serve as an ambassador for global charity Penny Appeal.

Mehiwish Hayat who is currently in London appeared in an interview with BBC World. She shared on Twitter about joining Penny Appeal as an ambassador and she will be raising funds to rebuild 5 schools in Sukkur, Sindh.

Here’s what Mehwish wrote:


Penny Appeal helps needy people in over 30 crisis-hit countries worldwide. They help build wells, care for orphans, deliver urgent medical aid and healthcare, provide nutritious meals, open schools, orphanages and mosques, care for the elderly and much more.

Mehwish will be working as Goodwill ambassador for this global charity. She will play her role to improve the education sector in the rural areas of Sindh. She also emphasized on the need to educate young girls as they will be the one raising our next generations.

Talking about gender equality in Pakistan, Mehwish said that we are progressing as a society and things are not the same as they once used to be!

Talking to BBC World, Mehwish Hayat also discussed Kashmir Issue and the role of celebrities in promoting peace. The Tamgha-e-Imtiaz winning actress talked about the portrayal of Pakistanis as villains in Bollywood and Hollywood movies, the point she also raised in her speech in Norway.

Mehwish added that she’s been receiving a mixed response on this statement of hers from the other side of the border. However, she’s glad that the discussion has begun and it will surely have an impact in the future.

She said that artists carry a huge responsibility on our shoulders. They should be building bridges and be the torch bearers of peace.

Mehwish said that she wants to see the ‘right’ image of Pakistan to be portrayed because our country is more than terrorists and other stereotypical problems.

Talking about the Kashmir issue, Mehwish shared that she wants Kashmiri people to decide their fate and make decisions for their own. She also wants to see the political leaders coming on one platform to resolve this conflict
