Kiwis Knock Out Over Confident India To Qualify For Second Consecutive Final

After a thrilling semi-final played over two days, the Kiwis knocked India out of the World Cup by 18 runs. Unlike the Over Confident Indian side, the Kiwis won the battle of the nerves and restricted their Asian opponent to 221, while chasing 240 to win.

New Zealand took two days to post the winning total on board

They won the toss on Tuesday but completed their innings on Wednesday, because rain played spoilsport when New Zealand was batting. However, the break did them good as when they came out to bowl, the outfield had changed and the target that was looking easy, seemed highly difficult. Ross Taylor (74) and Captain Kane Williamson (67) kept the scoreboard moving in seaming conditions. It was because of them that the Black Caps were able to post 239 runs on the board for the loss of 8 wickets, and it proved to be a winning total for them.

Kiwis Knock Out India Through Calculated Bowling, Brilliant Fielding!

Not many were of the opinion that Kiwis will knock out India in the Semi Final of the World Cup, and that did the trick for them. The Black Caps went all out against the two-time Champion side and displayed superiority in every department. The fielders held on to impossible chances, the bowlers pitched at the right areas and the Indians did the rest. Five-ton Rohit Sharma, Captain Cool Virat Kohli, and KL Rahul all went for 1 run each. Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya revived India with 32, 32 runs but after their departure, the team was back in the back seat.

MS Dhoni, Ravi Jadeja had different ideas!

From the 31st over till the 48th, it was the Dhoni – Jadeja show that kept the Indian hopes alive. The two added 116 runs for the seventh wicket and brought India close to victory. But Jadeja, after scoring 77 runs off 59 balls fell to Trent Boult, it was all over for the Indians. Dhoni did complete his fifty and looked dangerous but a Martin Guptill throw ended his final World Cup innings. Three-wicket Matt Henry was instrumental in bowling out India for 221, handing New Zealand a one-way ticket to their second consecutive World Cup final.

Who will play New Zealand in the final?

With one finalist decided, all eyes are now on the second Semi-Final to be played between England and Australia. On one hand, there are the defending champions while on the other, there is the world number 1 side. If England manages to win, a new World Champion will emerge for the first time since 1996. Back then it was Sri Lanka, this time it could be either New Zealand or England. Otherwise, it will be a repeat of the 2015 World Cup Final where the Aussies decimated their neighbors big time.
