Mohammed Khalil Akhtar has become the first Pakistani to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the category of shooting.
The 35-year-old Khalil Akhtar who belongs to Pakistan Army qualified for the prominent Olympic Games by impressing all in the World Shooting Cup being held in Brazil.
The event helped him qualify for the upcoming 2020 Olympics through the quota system making him first Pakistan to do so.
Khalil Akhtar is all set to participate in the rapid-fire pistol event from Pakistan and make the country proud.
He will battle in 25m rapid fire pistol event involving successive rapid-fire in the standing position over short periods of eight, six and four seconds. The shots will be taken through the manual pistol.
According to the Pakistan Shooting Association secretary Raziuddin,
“Pakistan can win an Olympic medal in the shooting event. Qualifying through Olympic quota is a big win.”
The Vice President of NRAP Javaid Lodhi stated,
“So far he is the only Pakistani to qualify for the Olympics. We are happy at his performance and now hope he would earn a medal at the prestigious event in Tokyo.”
Khalil is the only qualifier right now from Pakistan who is being selected for the 2020 Olympics.
