You may call him Mr. U Turn, some have named him Selected Prime Minister but the way he has conducted the Premiership in the last one week, Imran Khan has proved that he is miles ahead when it comes to national politics. Before entering politics, he was known as someone whose actions spoke louder than words and that’s one of the many reasons why he is now heading Pakistan, where if you don’t help your countrymen, you don’t matter.
The former cricketer turned politician turned Prime Minister has led a life full of achievements. When Javed Miandad hit the last ball six off Chetan Sharma in Sharjah in 1986, it was Imran who was leading the side. Who can forget Saleem Malik’s brutal knock at Kolkata (then Calcutta) a year later, Wasim Akram’s match-winning six off Viv Richards to clinch Nehru Cup in 1989 and finally the ICC World Cup in 1992 where he went with a team that had inexperienced players who ended up with the trophy for the first and so far, only time. It was Imran Khan who said ‘We still have chances in the Cup’ after the team lost most of its matches, and it was the same Khan who led the team like a skilled general in the grand finale against a better English side.
In 1985, Imran Khan lost his mother Shaukat Khanum to cancer; all the money in the world couldn’t save her and that’s why Imran Khan decided to form a Cancer specialized hospital where everyone and anyone can get their treatment done for free. He collected funds from all over the world to make his words come true and today Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust Hospital stands as one of the best facilities to treat cancer in the region.
In 1996, Imran Khan formed a political party named Pakistan Tehreek – e – Insaaf and promised his countrymen that if they believe in him, he will rescue them from issues Pakistan face and after a struggle of 22 years, he managed to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan and is currently making the country proud.
During his election campaign, Imran Khan made some promises to the public like not using the lavishly made Prime Minister House, converting it into a University and opening Governor Houses for the public that he kept. Moreover, in the recent tense situation across the border between India and Pakistan, he warned that Pakistan will retaliate if India violated its sovereignty and that’s exactly what we did. As soon as two Indian Jets violated Pakistan’s Air Space, Pak Air Force shot down the planes and arrested the pilot. That pilot will be sent back to India on Friday and we know that because our Prime Minister Imran Khan just announced that on the floor of the Parliament. Unlike his predecessors, whatever he says, he sees it through.
