England Snatch Victory From The Jaws Of An Embarrassing Defeat!

English snatch victory from the jaws of what could have been an embarrassing defeat at the hands of Ireland, at Lord’s. England’s first match since winning the World Cup began with the hosts getting bowled out for just 85 runs. Thankfully, they recovered in their second innings and won the match on the third day by 143 runs, something that seemed impossible on day 1.

Ireland Shocked, England Rocked At Lord’s

England began the third day of the one-off Test at 303 for 9, and couldn’t add to their overnight score. However, their lead of 181 runs was to prove too much for Irish players, who were eyeing a win at Lord’s. Chris Woakes and Stuart Broad were able to shatter their dream and help their side register an emphatic win by 143 runs. Chris Woakes ended with 6 wickets while Broad managed four as Ireland was bowled out for 38 runs. The score was the seventh-lowest score ever in Test Cricket and the sixth instance against England.

Only one Irish Batsman Reached Double Figures!

It was a dreadful batting performance from Ireland as only James McCollum managed to reach double figures. Others were unable to stay at the crease long enough to resist Chris Broad who ended with seven wickets in the match, and Chris Woakes who managed six. Three batsmen were unable to open their account and returned to the pavilion for zero.

Records tumble as England snatch victory in perfect bowling conditions

Playing their third Test and eyeing a stunning victory, Ireland were unable to survive in perfect conditions for seam bowling. Their last nine wickets fell for 18 as they registered the lowest total at Lord’s. The English pacers bowled unchanged through the 94-ball innings, the shortest for any team in 95 years.
