PM Imran Khan to Launch Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarship Program Soon

Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan has announced to launch the Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarship program which will provide 50,000 scholarships to undergraduate students per year.

Taking to Twitter, the premier announced on Monday that it will be the first largest needs-based undergraduate scholarship program in the history of Pakistan. He also added that 200,000 scholarships will be awarded over the next 4 years (50,000 per year) under the Ehsaas undergraduate scholarship program.

Moreover, 50% of scholarships are reserved for women. These scholarships would cover the students’ tuition fees and also provide them a stipend.

Special Assistant on Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation Sania Nishtar also announced the launch that PM Imran Khan will launch the Ehsaas program today. She added that the government of Pakistan is committed to promoting financial access to education and offers an equal opportunity to women.

According to Dawn News, Ehsaas is an ambitious social safety and poverty alleviation programme launched by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf government. Since the launch of the programme earlier this year, the prime minister has inaugurated multiple welfare projects under Ehsaas’ umbrella including Ehsaas-Saylani Langar Scheme and Panah-gah in order to provide food and shelter to the poor.

Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarship Program aims to “ensure that no student is deprived of education because of financial need”. Students whose family income is below the poverty threshold and are admitted to any public sector university on merit will be able to avail the scholarships.

Ehsaas program also encourages differently-abled students to apply and/or those who hail from rural or remote areas.
