Centurion Rohit Sharma’s Fourth Ton Proved Too Much For Bangladesh

It was an eventful day for Centurion Rohit Sharma who not only hit his fourth century of the World Cup but helped his side reach the semi-finals. He completed his fourth knock of over 100 in 7 innings to steer India to 314 for 9 in 50 overs. His 92-ball 104 helped India triumph over impressive Bangladesh by 28 runs, and knock them out from the race for the last four.

Centurion Rohit Sharma proved his worth with second consecutive century

For the second time in as many matches, Centurion Rohit Sharma reached triple-figures and was part of 180 run opening stand with KL Rahul. Although no batsmen after the two openers crossed 50 later, the score they posted on the board was too much for the Bangladesh side.

Mustafizur Rehman’s 5 wickets couldn’t stop Centurion Rohit Sharma

The later order Indian batsmen couldn’t handle left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rehman who ended up with five wickets in the innings. Only Rishabh Pant (48 runs) and MS Dhoni (35) tried to score quickly otherwise India would have faltered for less than 300.

Shakib Al Hasan’s valiant half-century wasn’t enough for Bangladesh

Chasing 315 runs to win and stay alive in the race for the last four put too much pressure on the usually cool Bangladeshis. No batsmen besides the in-form Shakib Al Hasan (66 runs) provided resistance against the Indian bowling.

They succumbed to Jasprit Bumrah (4 wickets) and Hardik Pandya (3 wickets) who restricted their side to 286 runs in 48 overs.

Pakistan must beat Bangladesh on Friday to stay alive in World Cup

With Bangladesh’s defeat in their eighth match, they are out of the race for the last four. However, if they defeat Pakistan on Friday, both teams will exit the World Cup. Pakistan must beat Bangladesh to stay alive in the competition, and hope New Zealand does the same with England. At the moment, Australia and India are placed on the top two positions. The next two places will be decided after Pakistan, New Zealand, and England’s final matches.

In case Pakistan and England win, the hosts will finish at number 3 with 12 points, Pakistan at number 5 with 11. A superior net run rate will send New Zealand into the last four. If Pakistan and New Zealand both win, the hosts will be out of the tournament. The rest of the teams are out of the race for the last four, although they all have one match remaining in the World Cup.
