PM Imran Khan has not done much for sports in Pakistan, says boxer Amir Khan

Pakistani-British boxer Amir Khan is unhappy with Prime Minister Imran Khan for not taking enough steps to promote sports in Pakistan.

In a recent interview, Amir Khan alleged that the premier has done nothing for sports in the country after coming to power. He added that he would like to take up the task of promoting sports in Pakistan himself.

The boxer praised PM Imran Khan and called him a  great sportsman and politician. However, he seemed pretty unhappy with his approach to sports in the country.

Here’s what he said:

“So, you know even though he is a great person but for sports, he has done nothing. Being a sportsman, he has not done anything for sports”.

According to The News, Amir Khan also credited himself for being the only person that does anything for sports and added that he was taking Pakistani boxers around the world to put them in fights.

Earlier, the boxer shared that he aims to establish more boxing academies in Pakistan, but he was not getting the support to do so. He alleged that a government minister visited his academy only to click some pictures.

“There should be at least 10-15 boxing academies in Pakistan because there are so many boxers in Pakistan but nothing’s happening so that’s why I said that Imran Khan, being a sportsman, he is not really backing sports”.

He added that sports are going down even more than before and Imran Khan is less supporting boxing.

“(Sports are) probably going down even more than before because Nawaz Sharif is the one who got the Sports Council of Pakistan to give me the boxing academy, then I spent my own money around $100,000 on it to build it up but all I say is that Imran Khan is less supporting boxing”.

Amir Khan is also interested to enter in Pakistani politics and will do something for people if he became the sports minister.

Previously, the boxer has attended fundraising events with PM Imran Khan in Manchester and IK had promised to take people like Amir Khan to Pakistan at one event.
