Bangladesh shock, South Africa choke in WC encounter

Bangladesh shock SA in their opening match

South Africa’s chances of reaching the last four of the World Cup received a blow after they lost to Bangladesh. It was their second loss in as many matches in the World Cup and exposes the faults in team selection. On the other hand, the Bangladesh shock sends a reminder to other teams who were taking them easy.

Bangladesh batted like Tigers for 330/6

It was an impressive batting display from Bangladesh who managed 330 runs for the loss of six wickets in their 50 overs. Wicketkeeper Mushfiq ur Rahim top scored with 78 while Shakil Al Hasan scored 75 valuable runs. Mahmudullah and Soumya Sarkar contributed with 46 and 42 respectively to ensure their bowlers got a good target to defend.

Phehlukwayo, Tahir and Morris took 2 wickets each

The most successful bowlers from South Africa were Phehlukwayo, Imran Tahir and Chris Morris with two wickets apiece. The strange thing was that they went for runs, which was something that wasn’t expected before the match.

Lady luck was not on Proteas but Bangladesh’s side

Chasing 331 runs to win, the Proteas had a good contribution from their top order, but none converted it into a big score. Aiden Markram and captain Faf du Plessis managed 45 and 62 runs at an impressive rate. Even van der Dussen and JP Duminy kept the scoreboard running with their run-a-ball 41 and 45, but it wasn’t enough.

Mustafiz ur Rahman was the architect of Bangladesh shock win

The dangerous Mustafiz ur Rahman was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh as he ended with 3 wickets. Mohammad Saifuddin ended with 2 wickets while Man of the Match Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz went back with a wicket apiece.

Pakistan, England to clash in World Cup today

In the sixth match of the tournament, hosts England will take on Pakistan today at Nottingham. Pakistan lost their first match to the West Indies whereas England won their opening match against South Africa.
