Australia Whitewash Pakistan Despite Haris’ Heroics

Not even the mighty Australians would have believed if someone told them that they would win the ODI series against Champions Trophy winners Pakistan as easily as they did. First they scored 327 runs for the loss of 7 wickets then restricted Pakistan to 320 in 50 overs.

Although there was no century scored in the Aussie innings, Usman Khawaja’s 98 and Glenn Maxwell’s 70 were enough to put a mammoth total on the board. Shaun Marsh and Skipper Aaron Finch chipped in with fifties against the bowling attack led by Junaid Khan and Usman Shinwari.

After losing last match’s Centurion Abid Ali to a golden duck, Pakistan began resurrection through Haris Sohail. The left-hander scored 130 runs and dispatched the ball to all parts of the ground in what was his second century of the series.

However, no batsman except Imad Wasim (50 not out) and Umar Akmal (43) was able to provide assistance to Haris and Pakistan fell 20 runs short. Australia clinched the series 5-0, morale boosting victory ahead of the World Cup, a title they would be defending for the sixth time.
