On 20th June 2019, World Refugee Day was observed globally. To mark its importance, the UNHCR has come up with a campaign to encourage people around the world to take part in the global run of ‘2 billion kilometers to safety’.
The #stepwithrefugee challenge believes that ‘every step counts’ and people around the world can contribute the steps they walk, run and cycle to this campaign by registering on their website.
This is not the first time that Armeena Khan has stepped up to raise awareness about refugees around the world. Being vocal about the social issues, Armeena also earned immense respect and appreciation for her philanthropic work for the Syrian Refugees.
Last year, she joined hands with the Human Relief Foundation (HRF) to help Syrian refugees. Armeena also visited a Syrian Refugee camp located in Jordan. She also actively took part in distributing food packs among the refugees.
Earlier in February this year, Armeena also visited the European Parliament in Brussels.
She was invited by the Minister of Human Rights to visit the only parliamentary institution of the European Union (EU). She represented Pakistan on an international platform and we could be more proud of her!
All over the world people are joining a global movement, in solidarity with families forced to flee their homes. UNHCR invites everyone to join in this campaign to cover the distance refugees travel each year to reach safety.
The aim of this challenge is to cover the distance that refugees are forced to walk every year in order to reach safety. The campaign honors the efforts families make to survive after they cannot live in their homes anymore.
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees wrote:
Whether you’re a walker, a jogger or a passionate athlete, you can join this truly global effort and make every step count for refugees. Sign up today to start adding your kilometers and find out how you’ll be making a difference.
Families forced to flee violence and persecution make extraordinary efforts to survive. Discover the perilous journeys they’ve taken, the challenges they’ve overcome and the extraordinary work of UNHCR field staff.
Armeena Khan once again proves that she is beautiful inside out and never fails to make us proud. We are excitingly waiting to watch her Instagram stories as this young lady will now take part in the #stepwithrefugees campaign for UNHCR.
