Back to back innings defeat shock Pakistan fans
The experiment of using Misbah ul Haq as both the Head Coach and Chief Selector seems to have backfired for the Pakistan Cricket Board. First, the players he selected couldn’t perform, secondly, there seemed to be no plan of action. Australian bowlers bulldozed through Pakistan batting, ending the rain-hit match on the fourth day. Only Yasir Shah could show some resistance with a maiden century, as the rest of the batsmen failed to do much.
Innings Defeat: Nathan Lyon’s five ends Pakistan’s resistance
Although Shan Masood and Asad Shafiq scored fifties on the fourth day, it wasn’t enough to make the Aussies bat again. Nathan Lyon ended Pakistan’s resistance and took 5 wickets in an innings, his best of the series. He accounted for Shan Masood who scored 68 runs and Asad Shafiq who managed 57 runs, as well as Iftikhar Ahmed, Yasir Shah, and Shaheen Shah Afridi. Pakistan Cricket team managed to score 239 runs in their second innings, losing the match by a huge margin.
Miserable tour ends for Pakistan
With the return of Steve Smith and David Warner, it was always going to be a difficult tour for Pakistan. However, not even Pakistan’s most ardent fans were expecting a toothless bowling performance and pathetic batting from Pakistan. If Yasir Shah could score a century against Australian bowlers because he played aggressively, then why didn’t the rest of the batsmen follow suit. The bowlers were also unable to use the conditions to their advantage, like the hosts who were perfect on all four days. With this win, Australia continued their dominance over Pakistan, extending their unbeaten run at home since 1999.
